Simon Hackett works at Privilege Homes in Burton-on-Trent, a building firm specialising in sustainable construction projects.
He was first introduced to BuildingWorks by Mick Gardner, the owner of Privilege Homes. Mick has always been keen to embrace technology whether that’s looking for innovative ways of building or finding the right IT solutions for his business. And over the years Mick has used other software developed by the HBXL Group, of which Integro Construction Software is a member.
Had you worked with many computer programs before using BuildingWorks?
Not really, and I’ve never used an estimating package before. It must be relatively easy as I’ve only had to refer to a few videos to get to grips with the software, and they’ve been very useful. So essentially it’s all been under my own steam. Mick, who has experience of estimating software, also had some initial input.
How are you using BuildingWorks?
I import the architect’s plans and used the design module to trace over and obviously the estimate module provides the costings at the same time.
What do you particularly like about the software?
Speed. Estimating is now much faster that’s for sure. I like being able to click and pick products. The choice is comprehensive. And it’s great that the software is thinking in terms of complete prices for walls for instance. I’m also happy with the user interface. Ultimately, BuildingWorks does the legwork for me.
And how do you see things progressing with BuildingWorks?
I’m getting more confident as I go. I know I can tweak prices and other cost centres, and make the software fit with our own way of costing projects. Once I’ve tailored it to suit us, BuildingWorks will be even faster and easier to use in the future.
